Approach Management Services congratulates Potelco Inc. in Sumner, WA for being honored by the American Heart Association with the 2018 Golden Heart Award.
Potelco is being recognized for their automated external deliberator (AED) program that has successfully saved five lives since 2010.
An AED program prepares companies to respond to sudden cardiac arrest by training on-site responders with CPR and the use of an AED.
"We provide training to all of our employees on appropriate AED use and complete monthly visual inspections to ensure all devices are operable. Our program goal is to increase the rate of survival for people who have sudden cardiac arrests. The AED program is designed to provide equipment and training to enhance life safety response measures. AED's make it possible for trained and untrained responders to administer defibrillation prior to the arrival of Emergency Medical Services. These devices are located in every foreman truck as well as our office locations."
Sudden cardiac arrest is a leading cause of death in the United States, with more than 350,000 incidents occurring outside of the hospital each year.
Prompt bystander response, combining early defibrillation and CPR, is key to helping more people survive this cardiac emergency. Nationally only about 12% of victims survive.
The Golden Heart Award will be presented at the American Heart Association gala, Dinner with Heart, on April 27, 2018 in Tacoma.
